The Department of Children Youth and Families is currently seeking candidates for its 20th Rhode Island Training School Pre-Service Academy.

General statement of duties:
The Juvenile Program Worker is a uniformed staff position that provides for the care, custody, supervision, and security of the youth incarcerated in the Rhode Island Training School. The Rhode Island Training School is a juvenile correctional facility for adolescent males and females. Duties also include assisting in the rehabilitation, education, treatment of the residents as well as doing related work as required.

Benefits and Salary (upon appointment):
State medical, and life insurance benefits package, salary range from $44,093-$50,043, paid vacation and sick leave and college reimbursement programs.

Minimum Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
Qualified applicants must possess the minimum qualifications of being 21 years or older and possess a valid Rhode Island driver’s license. Qualified applicants must also possess a minimum of an associate’s degree acquired from an accredited college and experience working with adolescent youth.

Application Process:
Qualified applicants must submit to a BCI/NCIC background clearances, Child Protective Services background clearances, a Drug Screen, a Physical Fitness assessment Battery, Interview Panels and a Psychological Screen. The Physical Fitness Assessment Battery standards are as follows:

All qualified applicants must complete a 6-week Pre-Service Training Academy that includes trainings in, but are not limited to:

Security Procedures
De-escalation and Restraint Techniques
Juvenile Rights
Emergency Procedures CPR/AED/First Aid
Interpersonal Communication Skills

After graduating from Pre-Service Training Academy candidates may be placed on a hiring list and offered employment upon positions becoming available.

Must have successfully completed and graduated from Department of Children, Youth and Families Juvenile Correction Pre-Service Training Program. In accordance with RIGL 42-28.3-1 no person shall be appointed temporary, probationary, or permanent until they shall have been evaluated and tested by a certified psychologist and receive a satisfactory rating which shall be in writing.
